Friendship

A deep pain soon
Rose in my heart,
I knew I’d never see them again,
Though the moon
Was trying its best,
To tell me:
But you’ve so many others,
What do you seek?
So I said right back
Friends are not like sisters or brothers,
They don’t take my love as
A granted, but differently,
Listen intently, O moon,
Listen and realize
What did I get from them
Love? No...
Hard to define,
Yes, that’s it:
Nothing but friendship.
Still did something part us
When we didn’t want to;
But had to.
Is it true? I felt...
My eyes flooded,
I stared at the moon, hoping it to say,
“You look anything but gay!”
But of all it said,
“You can be yourself again,
Keep your tears at bay...”
And then I saw her coming.
And many others...
And the moon said,
“ See then,
There in your heart,
Broken though it may be,
Your friends are still present.”
I still could not smile,
Did I really leave my friends in France
When I returned to India?
By then I was sure;
The moon knew many secrets.
